There is no doubt that Oklahoma City loves the Thunder (especially since they just won the first round of the NBA Playoffs by beating the Denver Nuggets last night!). In fact, the Oklahoma City Convention and Visitors Bureau recently used these mini Thunder basketballs to attract yet another conference to the capitol city.
Back in January, Sue Hollenbeck and Elisa Milbourn represented Oklahoma City at the 2011 National Sports Forum in Louisville, KY. This is an annual event that focuses on sponsorships, marketing and ticket sales for professional sports teams in every sport. And guess what? Next year it’s being held in Oklahoma City!
To encourage the attendees to come to the 2012 National Sports Forum, the OKCCVB folks threw hundreds of these basketballs into the crowd. “I told our crew to be careful not to hurt anyone with the balls… And then I hit two people in the head,” said Sue Hollenbeck, Assistant Director of Sports Business Development. “Fortunately they were soft!”
“The balls were a HUGE hit,” added Elisa Milbourn, Marketing & Communications Coordinator. “They were a great, cost-effective way to promote the 2012 event in Oklahoma City. Everybody loved the balls and asked us for more to take home to their kids.”
ROBYN Promotions was happy to be the link that put two great brands together on a collectible item for a strategic purpose.
