We don’t think there’s anything wrong with people who wear their heart on their sleeve. But… if you want to make headway with customers and potential customers, getting them to wear your corporate identity on their sleeves makes a lot more sense, especially when it comes to golf apparel. Did you realize there are more than 30 million men and women playing golf these days? And that 43% of players are managers or executives at various companies and corporations? (Don’t feel badly about not knowing those stats off the top of your head. We pay people to find this information and give it to us.)
Now for the really important lesson: To make it out of the closet and onto the greens, the golf-related promotional apparel you give as gifts must fit a few key guidelines.
Consider branding. At ROBYN we know from experience that no other sport requires more thoughtful attention to brand association than golf. Greg Norman, Adidas, Nike, Callaway…to name a few. Should your company be linked to the “Shark” or the “Tiger”?
Think about performance. The latest apparel choices combine multifunction with performance. Fabrics that offer odor-control, moisture management and body-mapping (for superior range of motion) allow you to give a promotional apparel gift that will truly be worn in comfort and with athletic appreciation.
Seek fashion. Choose women’s and men’s styles rather than a unisex selection. Look for details like windowpane or jacquard patterns in the weave, zip-in/out sleeves for wind-shirts, luxury fabrics from Egyptian cotton to silk blends. (Confused? A session with the ROBYN Golf Apparel Professor is available after this lecture!)
And, of course, consider the imprint. Choose methods such as tone-on-tone embroidery to make a subtle, sophisticated impression that will be worn proudly. Logo location could be the traditional left chest, or use a less obvious placement such as a sleeve band or bottom-left hem.
It’s almost time to tee off, so we’ll give you one final tip: remember to give coordinating golf caps, towels and bags with the apparel for a total, polished gift or tournament uniform.
